How it works

An exponent says how many times to multiply the base by itself. Negative exponents mean 1 divided by the power; fractional exponents are roots (x^0.5 = √x).

Formula

bⁿ = b × b × … × b (n times) · b⁻ⁿ = 1 ÷ bⁿ

Example

2^10 = 1,024. 10^-2 = 0.01. 9^0.5 = 3.
