How it works
The US Navy method estimates body fat from height and a few tape measurements. It's typically within 3–4% of lab methods. Women should also enter hip circumference. Educational estimate — not medical advice.
Formula
Men: 86.010·log₁₀(waist − neck) − 70.041·log₁₀(height) + 36.76 Women: 163.205·log₁₀(waist + hip − neck) − 97.684·log₁₀(height) − 78.387
Example
A man 70 in tall with a 34 in waist and 15 in neck is about 17.5% body fat.
Assumptions & limitations
- Based on population formulas that may not fit athletes, pregnancy, children or medical conditions.
