How it works
Ideal-weight formulas were developed for medical dosing and give a single reference number based on height and sex. The healthy BMI range is usually a more useful target.
Formula
Devine: 50 kg (men) or 45.5 kg (women) + 2.3 kg per inch over 5 ft
Example
A 5'10" man: 50 + 2.3 × 10 = 73 kg ≈ 161 lb. Healthy BMI range ≈ 129–174 lb.
